Scoring

Scoring rules for the Cayley, Hamilton & Maclaurin Maths Olympiads are as follows:

  • Each question is worth 10 points
  • Answers can be awarded partial marks depending on on the clarity of the participants Mathematical presentation

Awards and Thresholds

Each qualifying student receives a Certificate of Qualification or Participation depending on their entry route. The highest-scoring participants each receive Certificates of Distinction and Merit.

Each of the top 20 scorers receive a gold medal, the next 30 a silver medal and the next 50 a bronze medal. All medalists will also be awarded a book prize; the title varies from year to year.

The 2023 award thresholds were:

Cayley Mathematical Olympiad

Gold Medal: 50+

Silver Medal: 42+

Bronze Medal: 35+

Distinction: 31+

Merit: 12+

Hamilton Mathematical Olympiad

Gold Medal: 52+

Silver Medal: 44+

Bronze Medal: 38+

Distinction: 34+

Merit: 18+

Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiad

Gold Medal: 47+

Silver Medal: 39+

Bronze Medal: 33+

Distinction: 29+

Merit: 18+
