This week, the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) proudly joins thousands of charities and voluntary organisations across the country in celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2025, a UK-wide campaign honouring the incredible contributions of volunteers.
Now in its 41st year, Volunteers’ Week shines a spotlight on the passion, commitment and generosity of people who give their time to help others. Since 1984, the week has offered a moment for organisations to express thanks and reflect on the immense value volunteers bring to our communities.
At UKMT, volunteers are at the very heart of what we do. From marking papers to mentoring students and organising enrichment events, our mission to advance the education of young people in mathematics simply wouldn’t be possible without them.
Geoff Smith, UKMT Chair, shared his appreciation:
“UKMT would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to our 500-strong group of marvellous volunteers. You are 500 ways in which we achieve our mission to advance the education of young people in mathematics. Thank you, one and all.”
Led by the UK Volunteering Forum — a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland — Volunteers’ Week 2025 celebrates the diversity, unity and lasting impact of volunteering across the UK.
A spokesperson for the Forum said:
“Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. Without volunteers, many charities simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.”
As we celebrate this special week, UKMT extends sincere thanks to every individual who contributes their time, expertise and enthusiasm to support young mathematicians. You make a real and lasting difference.
