While video solutions have been a staple for other competitions, such as the British Mathematical Olympiads, the addition of Junior Mathematical Challenge solutions marks a significant advancement in accessibility and learning support for students.
Since 2006, the University of Bath has been at the forefront of providing solutions videos for various competitions, and now, UKMT is pushing forward to extend this valuable resource to all its competitions in the future.
In the JMC video solutions, the charity unveils a team of five presenters, led by Geoff Smith, Chair of UKMT. Joining him are four individuals bringing a wealth of expertise to the table. At the younger end of the spectrum, Georgina Majury, a post-graduate student at the University of Bath, and Tommy Walker Mackay, an undergraduate student at Trinity College Cambridge, offer fresh perspectives. Additionally, two highly experienced teachers, Mary Teresa Fyfe and Phill Beckett, bring their years of dedication and expertise to the team, having served as hardworking volunteers in marking competitions.
“This is something of an experiment,” says Geoff Smith, “and while the format may evolve in the future, we’re giving it our best shot this year.” UKMT hopes that these video solutions will enhance participants’ learning experiences and provide invaluable support throughout their Junior Maths Challenge journey.
The Trust extends its gratitude to the University of Bath AV unit for their unwavering technical support, making this innovative initiative possible.
Over 280,000 students took part in this year’s Junior Maths Challenge and Thresholds have been released on our website.
