Senior Competitions

UKMT Senior Challenges are aimed at students year 13 and below. Starting with the Senior Maths Challenge, with the Kangaroo and Olympiad as follow-on rounds, these are designed to challenge and engage your students.

Senior Mathematical Challenge

First Round Challenge: A 90 minute, 25 multiple choice question first round Challenge aimed at students year 13 or below. The problems on the Senior Maths Challenge are designed to make students think. Stimulating problems for both beginners and experienced problem-solvers.

Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo

A follow-on Round to the Senior Mathematical Challenge, the Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo is a 60-minute, 20-question ‘integer answer’ challenge.

Entry to the Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo is by invitation based on a qualifying SMC score, or by discretionary entry. Several thousand UK-based students qualify from the SMC each year. Open to UK schools only.

British Maths Olympiad Round 1

A follow-on Round to the Senior Maths Challenge, the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 is a 3.5-hour Challenge consisting of six Olympiad-style questions.

Entry to the British Maths Olympiad Round 1 is by invitation based on a qualifying SMC score, or by discretionary entry. Around 1000 students qualify from the SMC each year.

British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2

As a follow-on Round to the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1, the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2 is a 3.5-hour Olympiad consisting of four Olympiad-style problems.

Entry to the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2 is by invitation based on a qualifying BMO1 score, or by discretionary entry.

In addition to challenging high scorers from the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1, the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2 serves as an entry point to the training and selection programme for international competitions.
