This exciting competition invites students from Year 8 and Year 9 to tackle various engaging mathematical activities while developing teamwork and communication skills.

What is the Team Maths Challenge?

Teams of four students will put their problem-solving skills to the test in four thrilling rounds:

• The Group Round – Collaborate to solve a series of intriguing mathematical problems.
• The Crossnumber – A mathematical twist on the classic crossword puzzle.
• The Shuttle Round – Speed and accuracy are key as teams exchange answers to build upon each other’s solutions.
• The Relay Round – A high-energy event requiring quick thinking and seamless teamwork.

Following a hugely successful relaunch of TMC in 2024, we have doubled the number of events for 2025. One of the aspects of TMC that has ensured its continued success for over twenty years is the camaraderie between the volunteers, some of whom have been involved right from the start! 

Is there a National Final?

Schools that excel in their regional events will have the chance to compete in the prestigious National Final in June, held in London. 

Teams Coordinator Charlotte Gill says, “It’s been so exciting being a part of the relaunch of Team Maths Challenge. With the support of our brilliant volunteers and teachers, we have held TMC Regional Finals all over the UK, bringing an exciting maths-filled day to even more pupils than before. I cannot wait for the National Final and celebrating this milestone with everyone involved.”
