Tsolmon joined the Trust in October this year, as one of the most recent additions to our current group of 60 active volunteer Mentors. Below, we hear a little more about her and what impels her to support students in this way.

Tsolmon, what motivated you to get involved with UKMT?

After finishing my four-year Maths degree at Oxford University, I have been working in Data Analytics at tech companies where I use a wide range of analysis techniques, to understand drivers behind business performance. This involves analysing and finding patterns in large sets of unstructured data and trying to predict future performance.

I believe that the problem-solving skills I developed during my school days of Olympiad training and doing maths puzzles have equipped me with the skills and mindset to deal with the challenging problems that I tackle in my career.

I have tutored students in the past and found it to be an immensely rewarding experience. I believe that problem solving teaches creativity, logical thinking and tenacity which are extremely relevant skills to master in today’s world. 

What are your most memorable moments or highlights of your volunteering experience so far?

I think the highlight of the experience is seeing how young minds develop creativity and ‘thinking out of the box’ skills by solving challenging problems.

Any advice for individuals who are considering volunteering with the UK Maths Trust?

Volunteering and helping young people inspired by mathematics is an incredibly rewarding experience and  I hope everyone would consider doing it.
